Henry Kissinger is dead, at last!
We are not supposed to celebrate anyone's death, but this cynical, manipulative, murderous old ghoul, who caused so much death and misery to so many people around the world, is an exception.
Kissinger conned the Kurds too among others. He encouraged and promised support for Mullah Mustafa Barzani to lead a tribal rebellion against Saddam Hussein in the 1970s. The real reason was to compel the Iraqi strongman into a compromise with the Shah of Iran. Once that deal, the 1975 Algiers Agreement, was signed, all aid to the Kurds was cut, and the Barzani rebellion collapsed overnight.
Pike Commission investigating US activities in Iran and Iraq refers to that deception thus:
"Documents in the Committee’s possession clearly show that the President, Dr. Kissinger and the foreign head of state [the Shah] hoped that our clients [the Kurds] would not prevail. They preferred instead that the insurgents simply continue a level of hostilities sufficient to sap the resources of our ally’s neighboring country [Iraq]. This policy was not imparted to our clients, who were encouraged to continue fighting."
That historic betrayal was the main reason why Mullah Mustafa's son Masoud Barzani rejected US entreaties to cancel the 2017 Kurdistan independence referendum. Trump's Secretary of State Rex Tillerson made promises to the Kurdish president to delay the vote but, like Kissinger's, his were also made secretly in unsigned letters.
Like all Kissinger plots, the Algiers Agreement worked for a short while before the Shah was ousted from power and Saddam invaded Iran. Kissinger and his admirers were the 'cold-eyed realists' who influenced US policy of ongoing backing of Saddam, despite his use of poison gas against Kurds and Iranians, until his 1991 invasion of Kuwait. The Iran-Iraq War of 1980-88 caused immense suffering and took a million lives.
People elsewhere in the Middle East, Indo-China, and South America also became deadly victims of Kissinger's Machiavellian schemes. It's for that reason that there will be a sigh of relief and a great deal of joy and happiness around at his eventual demise.
Henry Kissinger is dead, at last, and may he burn in hell for all eternity.
Reposting a piece from 2018, a year after the KRG independence referendum & marking 30 years of the chemical weapons attack on Halabja by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. Commemorating such tragedies should remind the #KRG leaders of how far they’ve come. https://t.co/2QNmSdOYfw
Pandering to conservative votes when whispers of an election is in the air will not achieve anything.
Suli is supposed to stand for progressive politics, and usually a stark contrast to other cities in the region - this sort of regressive crap is awful.
