It's now over ten years since, the Internatonal Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) released the Panama Papers that turned the world on its head.

For Uganda, the papers revealed how Heritage Oil used Mossack Fonseca - the Crimial Law Firm at the centre of the leaks - to avoid paying $ 400 million dollars in taxes. Uganda, partly thanks to the leak, later won the case against Heritage Oil. If only our leaders keep this fact that impartial, fearless, investigative journalism helps us all when in need!

Anyway, this new documentary from Penguin History - from which I got the video below about Uganda - revisits the Panama Papers scandal. How it started, what it was, and how it shook the world.

How do you want to grow Ugandan Football when you don't have organised Primary and Secondary School leagues at both the district and regional levels? When kids are trained by underfunded academies with no financial support? Not a single school where football is a priority developmental goal? Where volunteer coaches burn out to develop players, only for FUFA to mismanage them when it comes to pay and welfare? Let me remind you of Micho and how long his salary went unpaid. Name the school pitches that FUFA helped rebuild to a normal standard, not the ones where players have to run over the hill back to their half to inform the keeper that they scored the goal. Hapana you. If anything, you should fold in shame and apologise to Ugandans for decades of mismanagement and the abject absence of developmental ideas for the country. You are not liked or respected; you're lucky Ugandans are meek and frightened, otherwise you'd be in a gutter somewhere and swiftly forgotten like an old T-shirt with stains that will never come out. History will remember you unkindly.

I have an issue with how the Male gender is handled, this is an incident where a young boy was found with a young girl in a lodge in Masaka and the two are said to be students

My father puts matooke in a sack in Mbarara, writes my phone number on the sack in marker, and hands it to a bus conductor he has never met. That sack travels two hundred and seventy kilometres and reaches Kampala the same day.

No booking. No contract. No tracking number. A phone number on a sack, and it holds.

Then it stops working.

I get the call, drop whatever I am doing, and go to Bakuli. I stand there looking for my sack among thirty identical sacks. I find a boda. I carry matooke home like the bus never happened.

And before that call, I have no idea where my things are. I phone my father, my father phones the driver, the driver says they are near Masaka. That is our tracking.

Now imagine that same sack, automated. It leaves Mbarara and finds me at home. No trip to Bakuli, no hunting through thirty identical sacks. Just my phone showing me where it is, an SMS when it leaves and another when it is at my gate.
