Searches for Defamation Attorneys are on the rise ๐
But what could be behind this trend?

Google removes business reviews "due to defamation complaints"โ
I don't believe Google has a specific anti-defamation policy, but a few rules under Maps User-Generated Content Policy could apply.
So, this is great information to know!
Generative AI chatbots have increasingly played a part in defamation lawsuits, and this trend is going to continue.

Because Google tanked the rankings of Ripoff Report and other exploitative websites like it, Ripoff Report now "nees your help" and is asking for donations right off its homepage.
How inclined do you feel to help them?
I had a similar gut reaction to Jan-Willem's regarding Google's claim that sites don't need to take steps to ensure Javascript content is acceptable: DISBELIEF.
JS-rendered content is frequently a major barrier to search bots' access. ๐ค

It has reached a point where Reddit's listings in the organic search results and AI overviews need to be tagged "sponsored". Are you paying attention, @FTC?
This is also arguably reducing the quality of Google's overall search.

For publishers, having "best __ product" pages is a goldmine for AI search citations.
Most of the top-cited pages across many publisher sites are product review pages. For brands, being mentioned on these pages is key.

Google Trends API?!? Yes, please!
This is a fantastic development.
Also? Google's AI Overview does not have awareness of this yet as it is too fresh. (See in the comments below.)
I'm jazzed to be speaking at the @Pubcon Austin 2025 conference today & tomorrow!
I'm speaking in the "Backlinks Still Rule the Web" ๐๐๐ session along with @rollerblader!
Not. To. Be. Missed!
Thanks to @btabke for inviting me to speak.
DYK Pubcon has been around 25yrs?!
I was asked to be a last-minute pinch-hitter keynote speaker at the @DigiMarCon conference in Dallas this week! It was a fun break from my usual case load, and I wanted to see what the conference was like since I've never been. It was fun to meet the attendees and speakers!
This was once the SEO party to end all parties!
Argent Media's CEO, @si1very, with @mattcutts, at a Googledance party at Google's headquarters over a decade ago.
We love the swank rave lighting!
Matt Cutts (Google's former Distinguished Engineer and head of their Webspam Team) and I at Googledance, circa 2008, at Google's HQ (the "Googleplex"). Googledance was a party that Google hosted for attendees of the SMX West conference in San Jose back in the good 'ole days.
While Googledance was a fantastic party with all sorts of food, drinks, games, and dancing, one could also filter off into a backroom at Google to chat with the ranking engineers and ask them questions, which is what I always did. While they were very careful about what they said, one could also get glimmers and nuances of what they felt about topics, and inflection gave hints about stuff that you could also read between the lines.
Pagespeed is another SEO pet peeve. I've met very few SEOs that can turn a PSI report into clear dev actions because they don't understand the code. Stop trying to own this. Just tell the dev team what goals to hit and let them do it.
Reputation Management advice: it's rarely ever going to help your business to insult a customer! ๐ซ Clapping-back to a negative review might be immediately satisfying but will often cast you as unprofessional when other potential customers see it. โญ
