Editorial director at @city_bureau. @aaja_chicago board. she/her. Certified cat lady & @chicagosky fan girly. l’m on bluesky now @missprint.bsky.social.
Excited to be starting as editorial director at @city_bureau this week. I am so grateful for my time at @chicagotribune and @chitribfood, and the folks there are still doing great work. It was simply time for a change and a new challenge.
I know this is totally anecdotal, but has anyone else in Chicago noticed a huge uptick in parking enforcement since roughly December? I swear I see ticketers on my Bridgeport block weekly now after almost never seeing them for seven years prior.
REALLY excited about this project. We're teaming up with Documenters sites across the country — Detroit! Newark! Seattle and Washington! — to illustrate how federal cuts are affecting your local communities.

AOC when asked on CNN about Schumer not endorsing Mamdani:
"The Democratic Party cannot last much longer by denying the future, by trying to undercut our young, by trying to undercut a next generation of diverse and upcoming Democrats that the actual electorate and voters support."
What happened to Charlie Kirk is unconscionable, but it was literally a few months ago that two Democratic state legislators were gunned down by a right wing activist. Let’s not pretend this is one-sided
@AlexNitkin This is actually dumb. Lizzie Kane has been holding the fire to the feet of the Housing Authority, and her reporting has actually resulted in the first positive change in that agency in 20 years. It's also super engrossing and the only reason i click a Tribune link anymore.
The Tribune laid Sean off before he even covered a season. Employed him as a Bears reporter from March to July. This business is just brutal. Wishing him and the rest of the laid off Trib staff a new job, and soon!
.@lizzie_kane17, our tiger of a housing beat reporter who led a major workplace culture investigation into Guaranteed Rate, has landed one scoop after another, including several just this month, on the Chicago Housing Authority and HUD.
Today, @chicagotribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.
I was laid off today by the Chicago Tribune as were several talented colleagues. I was able to report several dream stories during my year or so there, but partially, I had that freedom because “leadership” is completely absentee unless it affects their bottom line.
