Results of our feasibility trial of an Android smartphone app to support self-maangement in early intervention service in psychosis: feasible and acceptable, but room for improvement in useage rates.
Thanks v much to excellent @AriesStudyUCL team, and to all service users and clinicians who contributed at various stages, and for support of @arc_nt @NoclorResearch@sabpNHS @CI_NHS!
Dr Mathijs Lucassen @MathijsLucassen “The digital health world is like a Wild West” How can people navigate available options and distinguish between evidence based interventions from unknown interventions? #MindTech2019@NIHR_MindTech
Dangers of running ahead without proper evaluation-yes! I think an important question is why NICE is pushing ahead without evidence that this is helpful or effective, and without digital tools to support. We should be learning from mistakes in IAPT #MindTech2019#cyberpsychology
Here's a typical distribution curve of engagement with digital health interventions over time: there's a high level of engagement initially, but this decreases exponentially over time.
What needs to happen for this to change?

Join us 10am-4.30pm on Thu 5th Dec when we'll be discussing the $6m question:
How can we actually implement digital technology in mental health services?
Programme: https://t.co/ENCe9UVyRt
Blogs: https://t.co/6xotQGVIOf
“We are not in any position to oppose a digital future in mental health, but it’s our job to make sure it’s not a shit one.” New by me today on how we can make digital for #mentalheath both good and also better https://t.co/tUaZICejez
Starting at 3.20pm our second #DigitalMHNextSteps panel discussion:
Research on implementing digital tools in to mental health services.
Chaired by @soniajohnson with @VictoriaBetton, @AndrFon, Ceri Owen & @DrG_NHS
https://t.co/Xx8k57DARK
Now it’s Ceri Dare from @MentalHealthPRU: What can be done, including by researchers, to make digital mental tools more accessible to those using them and to help increase implementation and engagement in real world settings? #DigitalMHNextSteps https://t.co/Xx8k57DARK
Interested in digital #mentalhealth tools - how to ensure they are accessible and implemented well?
👉Check out this thread covering the expert panel from the #digitalMHNextSteps conference.
We are back from lunch at #DigitalMHNextSteps with Golnar Aref-Adib @docgolnar who is going to talk about:
Factors affecting implementation of digital health interventions for ppl w psychosis or bipolar disorder, & their family & friends
It's time to talk: #Implementation!
At the #MindTech2019 symposium, @DDEbert@TheISRII will be presenting on Harnessing digital solutions to tackle mental health problems in university students – The WHO World Mental Health College Student Initiative For further information visit: https://t.co/Qc0Ckk8dLz
Thank you to @soniajohnson and the @AriesStudyUCL team for a great event focussing on the #implementation issue in #digital#mentalhealth
My takeaways:
Digital should not be used for the sake of it - it should have a purpose. And we must not forget the system level barriers!
As part of @AriesStudyUCL we have reviewed the methods that have been used to investigate digital mental health tools - RCTs still dominant, with some methodological adaptations such as online recruitment. Hoping to publish this review of methods soon.

Glad to attend the #DigitalMHNextSteps event kicked off by @soniajohnson. Such a pleasure to hear about the outcomes of @AriesStudyUCL, the project I was involved in as a honorary research assistant almost two years ago. Great to hear about @EMPOWER_EWS as well!
Great to be able to present how our @AriesStudyUCL feasibility trial went today at our dissemination event - here's an excellent thread summarising it #DigitalMHNextSteps
This is the text of the talk I just gave at #DigitalMHNextSteps: "What will it take to get digital tools into regular use in #mentalhealth services, and what could researchers do to help make this work?" https://t.co/auwMzyMKpb
