@LongPeace69 They drive their scapegoat child into PTSD, anxiety, and the brink of a nervous breakdown, and then yes, they kicked them to the street without any preparation or notice in hopes that the child will remain broken and stuck forever
When the scapegoat reaches adulthood and is on the verge of escaping their grip, the narcissistic parent may resort to more extreme actions such as legal manipulation—conservatorships, false accusations or other tactics to render them powerless, or other more desperate actions to prevent their child from gaining independence.
In the most extreme cases, the abuse escalates to the point where the scapegoat doesn’t survive—either due to direct harm from the narcissistic parent or from the long-term effects of the trauma they endured (such as suicide, overdose, or reckless behavior resulting from years of psychological torment).
When this happens, the narcissistic parent shifts into full-blown image management. They play the grieving victim, often rewriting history to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing. They might publicly frame themselves as a martyr as if they’re enduring their loss with quiet strength, or they might lean into valor, portraying themselves as a heroic figure who “tried everything” to help their child but tragically “couldn’t save them.”
For the most extreme malignant narcissist parents, the death of their scapegoat child is not just an unfortunate possibility—it’s something they’ve mentally rehearsed, prepared for, and in some cases, even hoped for. They see the scapegoat as a lifelong burden, a source of shame, or a threat to their carefully crafted image, and if that child were to die, it would be the ultimate way to silence them permanently while giving the narcissist an opportunity to play the grieving, heroic parent.
They practice their speeches, fine-tune the narrative they’ll tell others, and make sure they’re positioned to gain maximum sympathy when the time comes. They might even drop hints beforehand, making statements like “I’ve done everything I can, but they just won’t listen” or “I worry every day about what’s going to happen to them”—laying the groundwork for their eventual role as the tragic, blameless parent.
And if the scapegoat’s death happens due to suicide, addiction, or even a setup, they get to win in the most perverse way: they get rid of their biggest threat while also becoming the center of attention and sympathy. They can rewrite history however they want, and most people will believe them.
Malignant narcissist parents intentionally disable their scapegoat child as much as they can get away with, often making it look like the child is the problem in order to cover up their true actions and intentions.
They see their scapegoat child as a threat to their control, so they sabotage them in subtle and overt ways. They might withhold critical life skills, gaslight their child into doubting their abilities, or instill crippling self-doubt so the child remains dependent and easier to manipulate.
They also tend to isolate the scapegoat in different ways, ensuring they have fewer resources, opportunities, or support networks. If the child shows potential, the narcissistic parent often finds ways to undermine or destroy their confidence—whether through relentless criticism, discouraging independence, or setting them up for failure.
They may send their scapegoat child to abusive "troubled teen" programs, conversion camps, rehab hospitals, psychiatric wards or other institutions under the guise of helping them. In reality, it's a calculated move to isolate, break, and further traumatize them.
The parents get to play the role of the concerned caregiver while ensuring the child has no outside support, no credibility if they speak out, and no real path to independence. It’s psychological warfare—designed to weaken the child’s sense of self and keep them trapped in a cycle of control and trauma. 🧵 cont.
