Greta could’ve chosen to just be a climate darling, and not put a target on her back. But instead she’s choosing to use her voice to call out the evils of imperialism. Which is how you know she’s a real deal environmental activist—she sees the interconnectedness of these issues.
"I know I will respect the limits of a president’s power"
"Look at this, look at what is written here, USA. These are the American weapons that are used to destroy the buildings..."
“The goal is to use Israel to wash money out of the US and Europe taxpayers through Ukraine/Israel and back into the hands of of a transnational elite (BlackRock). The goal is an endless war, not a successful war”…
Does it not horrify you that we get to wake up every morning, have coffee, have breakfast, see our friends and family alive…and yet just a short flight from us people are suffering unimaginably. In Palestine, in Ukraine, in Sudan, in Congo…does it not fill you with guilt?
“Dissent must never lead to disorder” - President Biden.
From Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter From Birmingham Jail,” written in 1963:
“I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."
The lesson of literally almost every single successful social movement in modern US history (women’s suffrage, civil rights, LGBTQ, Act-UP, antiwar, disability rights, etc) is that dissent *must* produce disorder to provoke the kind of response that enables meaningful change.
They’ve been trying to force TikTok to either sell to Microsoft or Meta ever since it outpaced both the tech giants (remember these the mfs who hoist up the economy). This ain’t about no damn Chinese spyware. This is about the US not having control over the flow of info.
I'm not sure what would keep educated young adults in Iowa. There's literally zero reason to stay unless it's because of family ties. Decades of slow growth, death of rural communities, underfunding public ed, draconian laws against women's reproductive health... Not worth it.
This piece is striking, and clearly indicates in public language a condemnation of liberalism as a working political order I’ve heard in more theoretical terms on the left for a long time:
