For clarification purposes, Lewis wasn’t called to pit under VSC on lap 39. Leclerc was.

Shortly after the VSC Hamilton was reminded he was on Plan B and they were getting close to his pit stop. That was when he made the call to stay out in the hopes that another VSC would be deployed.

I believe that’s the call he is apologising for.

Throughout this season, whenever Lewis Hamilton has started near the front or been in an advantageous position or come off the back of a strong race/session, Ferrari have somehow found a way to compromise his chances with the exception of Barcelona. They’re repeatedly come up with oddly, overly aggressive strategies that put him at a disadvantage and cost him potential podium finishes.

I don’t hate the player, but the truth is that the favouritism the coach has for him, and his insistence on playing him regardless of his form or fitness, have been the biggest stumbling blocks to Arteta winning multiple trophies in his Arsenal career so far.
