Being a trauma survivor, this statement is 100% true. If you cried, you were weak. You swallow the emotion until you’re a husk and then you act out the emotions to your best ability so that “normal” people don’t see you’re weak. You’re weak if you cry, you’re weak if you don’t.
If the stereotype is that trauma survivors cry at the drop of the hat, it's one of the most off-base stereotypes I've ever encountered.
LOTS of survivors don't feel they have the "right" to cry-- & LOTS of survivors have NEVER realistically had the emotional safety to cry.
