@petered1873 @FanOfStuff00 @AlecWood@BBCNews Another example is how there were gender based initiatives when we were trying to get more women into the workforce because women were underrepresented. The initiative was corrective. This is the same thing.
@petered1873 @FanOfStuff00 @AlecWood@BBCNews The initiative isn’t for poverty. It’s for the Black community, because they are amongst one of the under represented demographics in Oxbridge. Surely you can see this right?
@Mark24573885@T19reg@BBCNews Yes because systemically white people are not disadvantaged by racism. White oriole can be disadvantaged by other socio-economic criteria. But not by race. Therefore you don’t need aid based on your race. Ethnic minorities do.
@petered1873 @FanOfStuff00 @AlecWood@BBCNews Sure, but I can already tell that most of your friends ARE white. That’s not a criticism. But if you had more than one or two friends of colour, surely you would understand the need for social aid for ethnic minorities.
@gasman5757@BBCNews In order to even attempt to level the playing field it is a widely accepted method for trying to aid minority groups. It’s the same as gender based initiatives for getting women into the workforce because of a history of oppression. Surely you can see that?
I once turned on a TV in a hotel in London and Space Jam was on. I’d never seen it (I was busy in 1996) so I said “Who’s that?” My then-boyfriend said “That’s Lola Bunny! You don’t remember Lola Bunny?” I said no, and he said, in a way I’ll never forget, “*I* remember Lola Bunny”
We need an involuntary response for medium stressful situations that’s somewhere between crying and bottling everything up inside. The human body should be able to make, like, a foghorn sound. And people would go: Oh no are you okay? Did you hear a sad podcast or something?
If I’d contributed to 120,000 deaths, handed billions in public money to my mates & just been found guilty of breaking the law I’d probably try being less of a salty little tit. But I have at least a rudimentary sense of shame.
