5. Your friend asks you to go out, even if it’s just for an ice cream date, and you can’t afford it.
6. You borrow money from your friend and now you don't even know how to act around them because you genuinely don't have the money to pay them back.
7. It's your friend's birthday, you don't have money for a present, and you don't even have enough to take them out.

That's why I say, no matter how genuine you are, if you're a broke friend, you will never be able to be a good friend in the way you want to be. You'll feel bad because you're a good friend but you simply don't have the money, and eventually you might even distance yourself.
And no, we're not talking about those friendships where everything has to be content. We're talking about the reality that friendship can be hard when you're constantly struggling financially. Choosing not to have friends because you know you can't afford to show up the way you want to doesn't mean there's something wrong with you.
