This thought has been running in my mind since morning.

A player who has won it all:
U19 World Cup.
World Cup.
Champions Trophy (twice).
T20 World Cup.
IPL.

Every white-ball medal there is to win, he has ticked it all.
So why does he walk out of Test cricket?

Even when the wait of 18 years to win his maiden IPL title was fulfilled, during the celebration he spoke about how big and important Test cricket is. How it is levels above any other format of the game.

The only thing left was the WTC… and he has been part of two missed finals.
He even played the Ranji game, prepped like he always does. Everyone said he was gearing up for England.
And then one quiet Instagram post: “I’m done.”

What changed? What is his motivation now?

With Rohit, you can see the arc. He wants that one last World Cup, to walk away fulfilled.
But with Virat… where is his story headed?

I always thought that the day Virat is done with the game, he will just walk away.
Are we living through it now?
Is it unfolding in front of our eyes?

Sachin once spoke about Virat’s hunger, the intensity, the constant need to improve. That mindset used to inspire us too.
We mirrored his work ethic, his aggression, his refusal to settle.
Because through him, we learned that excellence is not a phase, it is a discipline.

But lately… it feels like the hunger has dulled.
Not in skill, but in spirit.

Maybe it is the toxicity, the noise around his family, the never-ending scrutiny. People and even some experts questioned him when he skipped a series to be with his family.
Maybe he is tired of the circus that comes with being Virat Kohli.

I am not writing this as a fanboy trying to undermine his greatness.
I am writing as someone who has lived through his moments,
who has felt the rush of him sending Rauf over long-on at the MCG,
who watched him destroy Australia in Mohali 2016,
who saw him command 60 overs of chaos as captain.

That swagger.
That fire.
That Virat Kohli energy. It is what I miss.

Because heavy is the head that wears the crown.
And sometimes… the crown burns more than it shines.
