Hundreds of citizens in North Macedonia marched yesterday in Tetovo against the restoration of Yugoslav-era street names. The decision comes at a time of growing concern over the unilateral dismantling of the Ohrid Peace Agreement through attacks on language rights, equitable representation, and other key pillars of the consociational model established by the Agreement. Such actions send the dangerous message that the Ohrid model of multiethnic democracy is failing, thus undermining the Western Balkans’ most successful peace agreement and weakening confidence in multiethnic democracy.
