This question reflects a misunderstanding of research.

Every accomplished researcher is trained in is scientific methodology: how to formulate hypotheses, evaluate evidence, distinguish correlation from causation, assess experimental design, and interpret results.

A CS prof may not be an expert in microbiology, just as a Nobel laureate economist is not a physicist. But both are fully competent to understand, evaluate, and discuss published scientific research in other disciplines, while appropriately relying on domain experts for technical details.

As for your second question, it misses the point entirely. The absence of an approved drug today does not imply that research into a potential therapeutic agent is illegitimate. Every approved drug was once merely a hypothesis under investigation. Most hypotheses fail, and that is exactly how science advances.

The relevant scientific question is not, "Is there already a marketed drug containing cow urine?" It is, "Do published studies provide sufficient evidence to justify further investigation?" That question can only be answered by examining the evidence, not by ridicule or appeals to absence.

Science progresses by testing hypotheses, not by declaring them absurd before the evidence is in.
