Some more detail on the ROIC Intelligence App I built yesterday and mentioned on today's earnings call.

I took the PDF that Brian Nowak at Morgan Stanley put together for Hyperscale ROIC this week and used Copilot code (coming in our new superapp) with a single prompt + skill (/drill-me) to create the plan, then used autopilot in auto to create the full app (with history, lookups, scenarios, what-ifs, etc). And /rubber-duck to test.

And the best part is that all the artifacts are in my enterprise environment. My app is in Copilot, my code is in GitHub Enterprise; all my data pipelines/lake/semantic models are in Fabric. And everything is under Agent 365 IT/Sec/FinOps control!

So this is not about Tokenmaxxing or vibe coding. Every step of the way the rails are engineered to create value, making everything a long-term reusable asset, with governance/security, and cost controls.

Speaking of IIT Madras, and to add to what Muthukrishnan-ji has said, Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, the previous Director of IIT Madras and Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala, whose brainchild is the IIT Madras Research Park, laid the foundations for what IIT Madras has become today and Prof Kamakoti has taken it to even greater heights.

Both Prof Bhaskar and Prof Ashok taught me when I was a student, though I must confess I was not a particularly good student, mostly floating by. I used to have the dictum "Maximize the grade while minimizing the effort" - now I understand why they say youth is wasted on the young 😂

Prof Bhaskar visited us in Tenkasi recently and he said in his usual no-nonsense style "I don't even remember you from your IIT days, I only remember your classmate Nagabhushana who stood out" and I told him "Sir, I didn't do anything in IIT to deserve to be remembered!"

By the way, my classmate Dr Nagabhushana, who was the gold medalist in our class, is now a Senior Research Scientist at Zoho, after a distinguished career in Qualcomm spanning over 3 decades where he was the co-inventor on over 700 parents and has made major contributions to the LTE technology standard which is in all our phones. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Madras. He and I work closely on important problems connected to compilers.

We need top notch talent like him to come back to Bharat and I am happy to say it is happening more and more.

The negative AI jobs outcome just continues to not be happening as some predicted. A large portion of enterprises I talk with -across industries- are still hiring, just with a tilt in the kind of roles they’re going after.

They’re finding that AI is letting them do more, and Jevons paradox is actually playing out. They’re hiring engineers to go after problems they couldn’t tackle before. They’re hiring in sales because they can go deeper in client relationships now with the help of AI. They’re hiring in internal FDEs to help them deploy AI. And so on.

Anyone using AI merely to cut costs eventually just gets outcompeted by companies that use AI to better serve their customers and drive more breakthroughs in their business.

Could this trend change at some point? Sure. But for now this appears to be the trajectory we’re on.

We have created a world where we coddled and told everyone that everything is too hard, including using the DOM. Second order effects on peoples ability to care about software and now we are shocked pikachu that people don't care about software.

Devs being lazy therefore we should use robots is a piss poor excuse. Determine the type of software you are building, the levels of slop and chaos you are willing to have, and then build to that level. The rest is SVLarping
