Your periodic reminder that charity will never solve what public policy was meant to address. The generosity of strangers is not a substitute for good public policy.
Props to @arlingtonfive for hosting @AmnestyNow for International Human Rights Day. You can get awesome food and coffee and lend a hand to the enduring struggle to protect the rights and dignity of other people.
@HeatherBadenoch@ArielTroster Just to clarify that we are no longer requiring vax passports. It was only intended to be a temporary extension which we lifted when the mask mandates ended. Please feel free to reach out directly should you have any concerns around this issue ✌️
@ArielTroster Thanks for the support folks! We’re encouraging (not enforcing) mask use and keeping them on ourselves. Very grateful for the duo of HEPA filters from @milacaresquad keeping the space a little safer too ✌️
When a longstanding regular at @arlingtonfive pitched an idea to the café, a unique collab with the School of Industrial Design at @Carleton_U was born. They want to get people talking about what #Ottawa could be. 🗨️🤔

There's a lot going on in our lives right now, & it's an understatement to say we could all use some kindness.
Tomorrow may be a new day, with new ways of doing things. But we're still a community, & we'll still look out for each other.
Take it one day at a time, Ottawa. (4/4)

Dozens of migrant farm workers left a voicemail for PM @JustinTrudeau this morning on #MigrantsDay. Turn on the sound, you don't want to miss this, especially the singing.

Please RT so the PM sees it.

@AMWATERS Some local options include @loudmouthdesign on Catherine Street or @KatariImaging on Elgin. Not sure about same day but great companies nonetheless…and locally-owned 🤘
Certifications only go so far. Direct trade partnerships that increase the value to producers and processors are vital for an industry that prioritizes a false (cheap) cost to consumers. We all need to value coffee more, and move away from a model that keeps farmers impoverished.
@OttawaMorning Coffee is such a complex good and its historical “cheap” cost has not paid the true price to those who tend to its cultivation and processing. Coffee lovers need to recognize that commodity prices have been unsustainably low (for producers) for decades.
