Ganito sinegundahan ng veteran journalist na si Christian Esguerra ang papuri ni Senator Alan Peter Cayetano sa husay ng kasamahang si Sen. Rodante Marcoleta bilang abogado.

Nagkomento si Esguerra sa binanggit ni Cayetano sa ikaanim na araw ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte nitong Miyerkules, Hulyo 15, na iilan na lang silang abogado ngayon sa Senado makaraang makulong sa plunder si Marcoleta.

Matatandaang kinasuhan ng Office of the Ombudsman si Marcoleta sa Sandiganbayan base sa sarili niyang pahayag sa isang TV program na tumanggap siya ng P75-million campaign donations mula sa tatlong kaibigan bilang suporta sa kanyang kandidatura noong 2025 elections.

Gayunman, hindi nakadeklara ang nasabing campaign donations sa Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) ni Marcoleta.

Ang tatlong campaign donors ni Marcoleta, kabilang si former congressman Mike Defensor, ay kinasuhan din ng plunder at nakakulong na rin ngayon tulad niya.

The 2016 Arbitral Award is one of the Philippines’ greatest legal and diplomatic achievements. But whether it remains relevant ten years from now will depend on what we choose to do with it today.

It was a privilege to join over 400 friends, partners, and colleagues from government, academia, think tanks, civil society, the diplomatic community, the private sector, and the media at the National West Philippine Sea Summit commemorating the 10th anniversary of the South China Sea Arbitral Award.

My special thanks to Defense Secretary @giboteodoro (@dndphl) and National Security Adviser Eduardo Oban (@nscphilippines) for their clear-eyed and insightful keynote addresses, which underscored the importance of cascading knowledge, strengthening public understanding, and building national resolve in defending our maritime rights and interests.

I also extend my sincere appreciation to @wps_ph and Dr @JeffreyOrdaniel for convening a truly national and multi-sectoral commemoration. Indeed, this celebration does not belong behind closed doors. This belongs to the Filipino people. And so does the responsibility to preserve, defend, and pass on the legacy of the 2016 Arbitral Award to future generations.
