The twēēt poem series is a playful break in the center of the book , an ode to the parts of me that are inherently memer and poster with a tinge of transcendental invitation , but for me it’s deeper than that, as this series marked the birth of Practices in Apparition, and, represent an end to a personal thesis and journey.
Quite directly, these tweets are why my book even came to be. As I was posting these multiple times a day with a passion, I received 3 different offers for publication. 3 different publishers wanted them as a book. We developed the book way beyond that, and I found myself sculpting a book that was designed to soothe the internet user, the human in this new gen of tech , to remind us that it’s all a tool, and that humanity has always been a tool species, and this doesn’t get in the way of God, or love, or nature, how we still have it all, we’re still who we’ve always been, handling hot and sharp things, reaching for connection and evolving . I wanted to make the “it’s okay to be online, it’s okay to go offline” book without saying those words at all. But I also wanted to talk about God and waterfalls and rocks and ghosts of course. Tying it all together was the joyous creative challenge and I had so much fun. This book is a snapshot of the last 3 years of study.
I also felt that these poems were a way to put the book on a timeline. Included in the tweet poems are Elon musk, Trump, Ye, grimes, various AI posters, creative coaches , and many more. I wanted a snapshot of this era but I also wanted to transcend it , play my way through it. Doing these felt more like sculpture than poetry. A dense rock carved into something lighter.
I really love these , and I feel they have more for me, more meaning I have yet to realize. Presenting them side by side like this already produced a new meaning - reading them back and forth was an entirely different experience than how they felt online. Side by side, they alter each other. So grateful for the opportunity to organize and present them in this way, archived on paper forever,
