The 88th Regiment of Foot "Connaught Rangers" was a regiment composed of Irishmen in the British army, formed in 1793 during the French Revolutionary Wars.

The Connaught Rangers achieved their greatest glory in 1812, during the Battle of Badajoz, where their infantry were the first to reach the fortress walls. Due to such acts of bravery, the 88th Regiment of Foot received the title "Devil's Own".
