Throwing himself into this vortex was dangerous. But Vardanyan told his daughter that he couldn’t live with himself if he didn’t try to help fellow Armenians who have suffered so many tragedies in their history."

Via @FrArmPrisoners, the latest from the show trial of Ruben Vardanyan in a military court in #Azerbaijan:

"The Prosecutor began reading charges dating back to 1988, which have no connection to Ruben, as he was studying at Moscow State University at that time."

"All of the motions made by Ruben’s counsel were denied including:
– A request for copies of all written documents and materials to be used by the Prosecution at trial;
– A request for translations of all such written documents and materials into Russian or English, as he does not understand Azeri."

"So far, Ruben has only had orally translated for him less than five percent of thousands of pages of the indictment and 'evidence,' to be used against him. And his local counsel has only been able to review 20 percent of the materials."

"The translated decision from the preliminary hearing contained references to Belarusian legislation, which is entirely irrelevant to the case."

Ruben Vardanyan's trial is a farce. He and the other 22 Armenians hostages being held by Azerbaijan must be released immediately. And the 80 Armenians who have been forcibly disappeared by Azerbaijan since 2020 must be accounted for.

103 years ago, on December 5, in Rome, the capital of Italy, at the age of 21, Arshavir Shiragian assassinated one of the organizers of the Armenian Genocide, Turkish Prime Minister Mehmed Said Halim Pasha.

In 1913-1917, Said Halim Pasha served as the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire. During the Armenian Genocide, he signed orders for the deportation of the Armenian population.

As part of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation's Nemesis operation, Arshavir Shiragian was following Halim in Rome. When Halim was returning from a walk with his bodyguard in a carriage, Arshavir jumped on the carriage and killed him.
