What is the “Achilles shield?”

A multilayered air-defense system being developed for Greece that incorporates Israeli defense technology. It combines advanced Israeli interceptors such as David's Sling, Barak MX, and SPYDER.

The Achilles shield is a multilayered air defense system for Greece using Israeli technology. Israeli weapons exports have reached record highs with more than $19 billion last year, a 30% increase from 2024

In addition to the agreement, a complementary deal valued at $30 million (26 million Euros) was signed for the sale of Rafael's Drone Dome systems.

"Israel and Greece share common strategic interests and face shared regional challenges. At a time when actors with hegemonic ambitions are seeking to expand their influence and undermine stability in the region," said Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Previous agreements have included a $1.65 billion deal with Israeli defense contractor Elbit to establish a flight training school in southern Greece, along with a planned sale of Israeli rocket launchers, antitank guided missiles, and drones.
