“I got a sneak peek at SFMOMA’s new exhibition co-curated by the BTS icon, RM. The exhibition, RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me, features almost 200 pieces from Korean and other international artists, including pieces that have never been publicly exhibited before.

Throughout his career, RM has brought Korean culture to the world stage and this exhibition is another example that will also bring energy to our city. I couldn’t be prouder to host it at our world-class SFMOMA.

“A large number of fans gathered at Incheon Airport to see the BTS members. As the members made their way through the airport to depart, fans continued filming them, particularly during the process of having their passports checked, where excessive filming that could violate their privacy continued.

Eventually, the members themselves asked fans to stop. Jin expressed his discomfort by saying to Jungkook, “Hey, Jungkook, tell them to stop filming.” Jungkook then turned toward those around him and asked, “Please stop.”

Security guards also repeatedly urged the fans, saying, “Please stop,” “Don’t film,” and “passports are visible,” while attempting to stop the filming. Since passport checks can expose personal identifying information, particular caution was necessary, but some fans continued filming and did not easily stop.

As an airport is a public place used by an unspecified number of people, there needs to be a certain amount of distance even when showing interest and support for celebrities. In particular, when passports and other personal information are being checked during the immigration process, greater consideration is required to protect the artist’s privacy.

As filming continued to the point that the BTS members themselves asked people to “stop,” there are calls for a more mature attitude within fan culture that respects artists’ safety and privacy.”

The members themselves ask to not film them, I hope people respect them going forward. Do not surround them in airports on tour and when they leave South Korea. Do not follow them in the airport when they’re going to board a flight. 🙏
