Team India’s next Test engagement is almost 9 months away. If I were tasked to revive the Test team, this is what I will do:
1. Elevate Ranji Trophy. Good pitches, tier 1 venues, talent scouts at all matches
2. Duleep Trophy as the marquee trophy to cap up the season: the best from Ranji have to play, no opting out for folks headed to IPL
3. Get County Cricket contract for the best 20-25 players, make them play the entire County season
4. Find window for a couple of A tours
5. Irani Trophy before the Aug Test
And above all, convince Kohli to come back and take helm of the Test team. Nudge him to play the County season as well. Additional motive for him: lead the ODI team as well for the 2027 World Cup
And for heaven’s sake, let’s get rid of the current coaching and selectors set up — they had their run

I like these kind of India Pakistan matches. Win and move on…no need to make a fuss about it.
Kohli’s MCG six will keep doing its damage for years to come!
And Abhishek will keep rubbing it in…
Weekend project: reviving old / boxed up electronics
1. Got Samsung UHDTV from 2015 working - this old friend is originally from New York, has survived movers and packers from NY —> Delhi —> Bengaluru and has been boxed up for last 2 years.
2. Required a step down transformer and patching an old Apple TV (again boxed for last 2 years) for getting AirPlay and new OTT apps going. But hey, now have a fully functional secondary entertainment unit
3. Bose SoundDock Portable (image) bought in 2012 and boxed up since 2017, now works as an aux for my Mac Mini 🤓
First flight in, first flight out.
As a frequent flyer, I generally stick to this rule, and especially avoid evening flights.
Once in a while, I push my luck, and I regret 😢
8pm Air India flight from Delhi to Bengaluru delayed by 2 hours and counting.
And am already dreading arrival mess at Bengaluru - flight parked far away, bus delays ++

Had the good fortune of praying at the Brihadisvara Temple in the holy month of Shravan.
In absolute awe of the temple complex and the architecture that has stood proudly for more than a thousand years!
Small but significantly impactful upgrade in the new line of Air India A320s.
USB-C charging ports now available, in addition to USB 2.0
Well done @airindia
I fretted away my teen years worrying Lara will triumph Tendulkar’s batting records
On the same path for next couple of years worrying Root will triumph Tendulkar’s batting records
For the longest time, I found solace in quality over quantity argument (Gavaskar better than Border)
Seems will have to fallback on थेसमे “dil behlaane ko…”
1/n There are many misconceptions about India's "Next Billion Users" that keep getting repeated and accepted. These misconceptions aren't just inaccurate - they're expensive mistakes. As businesses try to serve this customer base, it's important we understand who they really are.
@OscarPiastri: the new IceMan on the tracks.
@McLarenF1 may do well to designate Oscar as their premier driver. He is the real deal.
Constructor’s Championship is given, lock in that Driver’s title as well.
Go Oscar.

I'm convinced India will never be able to compete with the US and China in technology if we keep treating it as a spectacle.
A bunch of influential folks are organising, Asia’s “largest AI event” in Mumbai later this month, and the speaker lineup has Bollywood celebrities, cricketers, and YouTube influencers. These are people who haven't written a single line of code in their lives.
A country doesn't become a technology leader through celebrity endorsements or political speeches. India will never be a technology powerhouse if we parade technology as an accessory. Real AI innovation doesn’t come from celebrity panels—it comes from builders. PhDs, engineers, founders—people who write code, build models, and deploy systems at scale.
The US and China didn’t lead in AI because of influencer summits. They did it through university labs, open-source contributions, and startup founders building from first principles. We need to build an ecosystem to listen and learn from builders.
Technology isn’t a spectator sport. If India wants to lead, we must put real builders at the center of the conversation.
Here you go:
DeepSeek R1 is an AI model. An AI model is a bunch of a matrices with floating point numbers (referred to as weights) where you feed in an input (a sequence of characters embedded as a vector of floating point numbers) and get an output sequence.
DeepSeek is a mobile app (same name as the company) that lets you interact with that AI model through a chat interface. When you use their app, your data (prompts) go to their servers.
The company has also open sourced (basically uploaded all those matrices) the weights of the AI model for free use by anyone.
When you download those weights and bring it up yourself on your own server, you get to control the inference of the AI model and that way any user request sent to this new server doesn’t go to China as long as the servers are hosted in US.
The weights are just a bunch of numbers organized as matrices executed with sequential matrix multiplies - so no computation needs to leave the server in order to compute the next word in a sequence.
That way, another company can download the weights, host it on their servers, and let users interact with them in a chat frontend, and customize the AI model further to do more things like searching the web or using tools like code execution, wolfram, etc
