I love the part on love is blind where contestants explain that the reason they haven't succeeded with dating is that they're just TOO hot and successful and therefore, sadly, intimidate all their potential suitors :( it really is hard for the beautiful and rich to find mates

Also, important to keep in mind that while egg freezing is *expensive* for most people, the cost is quite low when considered in the appropriate context, at least for the women for whom it’s most useful. Late 20s ambitious women (in the US) regularly take on $200k in MBA debt, not to mention 2 years lost salary, just for the chance to accelerate their future career. If we’re not going to subsidize egg freezing we could at least normalize financing plans for it.
Why are people so confident that “Judeo/Christian values” are the foundation of what we most value from Western Civilization? There were centuries of darkness and stagnation post Christian dominance, and most defenders of western values feel connected to pre Christian Greek and Roman societies. Seems more likely that we just happened to be Christian at the time of the enlightenment.
@2Philosophical_ Yeah I think if you believe the moral norms are the major thing we value from Western society it’s a stronger case, but generally I don’t think that’s what makes our society unique or what people who talk about the importance of Western society reference as it’s main outputs
Watching reality tv there's always a character who's like "OMG I'm actually a super goofy/weird person in private!" but like... isn't everyone goofy in private?? Being weird in private is normal... It's only being weird in public that's actually weird!
It's easy to assume everyone else is as conformist in private as they are in public, and you're the only one with this secret other side, but they face the same incentives to outwardly conform as you do. So if you feel pressured to modify your behavior others probably do too!
