@CyberXilophone@TheRedVoyager@Wentelteefje06@CursedCatTruffa ive found that this is a feeling that is very hard to explain to people who don’t inherently have it (i agree with you completely)
when a game is strategically solved it cheapens the difficulty of the obstacles even without actually using the optimal strategy
@ceracymmetry i think spiribirds are kind of a difficulty balancing mechanic, newer or less skilled players could take the detour, while players who don’t need it get to fight the monster sooner. trade time + boring effort for a slightly easier fight
kind of good design with this in mind imo
@trigger_crono@gaiaerith i agree that they are too vague about cait sith in general but it’s not a crazy assumption to come down to, reeve can’t inhabit him 24/7 and his little speech before the sacrifice is fully nonsensical without this fact
@trigger_crono@gaiaerith i also found it silly at first but i think the intended effect they were going for is that he’s an ai periodically controlled by reeve (reeve doesn’t have an accent)
in this moment the ai, who has realized his love for the party, is going against orders and self-sacrificing :’(
@UltraSpicyBoi@olivecider776 fire emblem struggles with this so much tbh, they run out of narrative to justify actual gameplay levels so they just include some extra padding for the pure sake of more chapters (which i won’t fully complain about bc i love having chapters but it’s quite awkward sometimes)
@RaiBread776 the take itself is fine but i don’t really understand what there is to single out about fates and engage fans here honestly, story-focused FE fans are equally willing to ignore gameplay flaws in favor of stronger world-building, narrative etc
@NazyGramer@meltytime2 sounds like an extremely slim definition that is randomly strict for fire emblem. there are very few games that fulfill these requirements and even though fire emblem actually does it’s just “not enough” lmao
@RecallMyName@Pacifist_Elk I am fully in the same boat with you, I prefer Pokopia but thats just because I'm more mechanics-focused in general. I still played ACNH for a surprisingly long time which just goes to show how far pure style and polish can take a game haha
