@Barcabhoy1 The optics having secured a great deal for Hogh clearly shift positively and spending the money to make it happen is good news.
There is definitely hysteria and hyperbole among the support and unfortunately the atmosphere can turn toxic and some overstep.
2/3 more required.
This is so true and has shown (finally) a bit of comms savvy. Media drive their own agenda (understandably), the opportunity to lead with his before succumbing to the mass hysteria is welcome.
All the focus is on the social media videos but the really clever part of Andy Burnham’s comms this week was detaching the policy announcements from the media appearances. Keir Starmer used to announce things in speeches or at press conferences and then take questions, giving journalists an immediate chance to get him to comment on something else - which would then become the story. The 6am announcements this week, with Burnham only doing media much later in the day, ensured the announcement led the agenda for much of the day.
@Barcabhoy1 The nature of public statements is a challenge no doubt, I think there’s scope to find a better balance though.
It’s the length of time we (appear to) take to zero in on targets then have them concluded, if some deals moved swiftly the optics would improve.
@Barcabhoy1 The amount of garbage written about the club’s work is an issue, no doubt. They don’t appear to have mastered the art of the deal quite yet, too long to conclude, a void of communication that manifests in negativity and a (seemingly) difficulty in hitting the value sweet spot!
Interesting that the only comment being dissected is McInnes’ ‘it’s disgusting’. He also and possibly more importantly said ‘we’re up against everyone’ and suggested there were two ‘better shouts’ for penalties in Hearts v Motherwell game. Full context is important here.
@christopherhope Perfect example of the endless press speculation for clicks that provides the platform to erode trust in politics. He’ll now he asked multiple times to categorically rule this in or out..lots of click bait for news and a new narrative that he ‘won’t be straight with us’! Sigh!
@Auldheid@1888Seamus Their failure to communicate effectively means week by week management of the club becomes a soap opera, it feels tinpot and miles from representing the stature of the club we should aspire to be.
@Auldheid@1888Seamus Those three vague ambitions do not amount to any kind of coherent strategy. £77M in the bank is beyond self-sufficient and ‘competing’ in Europe is impossible with our current levels of recruitment. It’s back of a fag packet stuff.
@Auldheid@1888Seamus I’m not convinced it lies in how they communicate but more in what they communicate. There is no clear plan for the club to grow and improve that’s accessible for the average fan. It’s often hamfisted misteps followed by long periods of silence that feels truculent.
@Auldheid@1888Seamus What do you believe reconciliation should look like? Surely the club’s engagement/communication has to be improved. The void is filled with a building momentum of negativity, they have the power to change this, is there a will?
Here we see why Andy Burnham is right to avoid the circular firing squad of media, at critical moments; This is a classic ‘Murdoch loop’ - the creation of “news” by one Murdoch entity talking to another - if you allow questions you give these people viral content, the Question becomes the story, is asked purely to become a story and has nothing whatsoever to do with fair journalism.
@Auldheid@Airthreycastle3 It cannot be the case the our CEO is scared of engagement, this is the gig, fans have strong and varied views. The club needs to lead the narrative and it has to be clearer, stronger and more positive. They must understand they don’t have choice here, they have to be better.
@Auldheid@Celticnewsnow@67HailHail In the past we’ve heard the narrative around DD providing security for the club and making investment. There appears little evidence of this and we know he takes money out. These are reasonable points to scrutinise/raise. The will is for a new direction for the club surely?
A fairly remarkable low, even for this Board, player desperate to come, manager wants him, knows the club and we still can’t get a deal done! Anyone else confused?

You obviously don’t pay £47k per week for iheanacho but you move faster, seems simple enough. Offer the best deal then move on quickly. It’s the pace of things that is holding us back.
Amidst all the fallout from Iheanacho transfer nonsense the boys @20MinuteTims made the key point, the deal was in place, one more year and we decided to break it. More evidence we work twice as hard sorting out our own messy transfer dealings.
