Fantastic Planet (La Planète sauvage), directed by René Laloux and based on the novel by Stefan Wul, is a French-Czechoslovak animated science-fiction film known for its surreal, hand-drawn visuals and allegorical storytelling. The film is set on the distant world of Ygam, ruled by the giant blue humanoids called Draags. Humans, known as Oms, exist there as either domesticated pets or wild, persecuted creatures.
The story follows Terr, an Om raised as a pet by a young Draag. After escaping captivity, he joins a community of wild Oms and brings with him knowledge he absorbed from a Draag learning device. This newfound education helps the Oms organize, rebel against their oppressors, and ultimately negotiate a coexistence with the Draags.
