As an Indian American and a New Yorker, I find Mayor Mamdani’s comments deeply troubling. He is certainly entitled to disagree with the RSS, but in my view, branding an entire Hindu movement as “exclusionary” without offering specific evidence is neither fair nor pluralistic. The RSS constitution affirms peaceful conduct and tolerance toward all faiths, and Mohan Bhagwat has repeatedly said that Hindu society must respect and embrace religious diversity. This gathering is being presented as “Universal Oneness Day” and is supported by more than 200 Hindu-American organizations.

If the Mayor has any evidence that this event promotes hatred, he should present it. Otherwise, using his office to stigmatize a lawful Hindu gathering while speaking about inclusion appears to me to be selective pluralism. New York’s diversity must include Hindus and Hindu organizations—even those whose views the Mayor may personally dislike. #mayor #mamdani #RSS #mohanbhagwat #Hindus
