@katpburke@dawsferatu I’d say the only book that gets close to rivaling The Big Nowhere is maybe White Jazz. But most of the time I tell people that if they’re going to read one Ellroy book it’s gotta be Nowhere. I don’t think Jazz is a good intro to Ellroy tbh.
@dawsferatu I would love to see an adaptation of Ellroy’s LA Quartet that leans in heavily to the horror vibes. Though that may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
@dawsferatu Yup. Also, I think it has one of the best versions of that three main povs he does so often, eg LA Confidential and American Tabloid. And it’s got some of the best Dudley Smith moments. Also, Buzz is one of my favorite characters ever.
@GhostStoriesEnd For me it’s a toss up between The Wild Bunch and Once Upon a Time in the West. Both are films were I feel the director is at the height of their power.
@dawsferatu I read Off Season several years ago and thought it was alright but the short story Winter Child that came with it was much better and far creepier.
