ALSO coming from my experience working with high schoolers, I think it’s easy to forget just how young teens are? Like these are freakin KIDS a lot of the time, they’re trying to figure out who they are. (And sometimes to them that means trying to dictate who others are/aren’t).
Seeing the lesbian discourse come up again is funny to me bc when I too was chronically online during lockdown, I got into it.
And now that I’ve spent 2 years working at a high school in one of the most homophobic districts in the US, it’s like…. a faggot’s a faggot….. 🥲
You know what makes my blood boil? That people think trans and gay youth are a threat to schools but not actual monsters who shoot up schools and murder children
@SoftGhost SAY IT LOUDER ‼️‼️‼️ I legit just resigned from teaching at my last high school bc they pulled this exact shit. How many queer kids are gonna die and how many of ANY kids are gonna get murdered until something fucking changes.
@ClareLaBelle Yeah that is totally nutso lol! A lot changes during your teen years, and in my experience teaching high school, it is for sure a big time for kids to figure out who they are. You are 100% valid no matter what your label was then, now, or what it will be later!!
@ClareLaBelle Plus, our language changes too. Perhaps 50 years ago some terms weren’t as popular or didn’t even exist yet. Language changes, people change, I think it’s one of the most beautiful things about being a human; definitely not something that should be judged or ridiculed.
@ClareLaBelle Screw what other people say!! They are not the ones experiencing what you experience. Your identity is YOUR choice and your experience, not anybody else’s. In fact, I’d argue that it’s incredibly “normal” (aka very common) for people to fluctuate on labels a LOT in our lifetimes!
