When I was consulting for @HBO Silicon Valley, zero-loss compression was the holy grail Richard Hendricks chases that perfect middle-out algo could shrink everything w/out breaking a single bit.
Google just did something even more practical for the AI era: TurboQuant compresses LLM key-value caches down to 3 bits per value using random orthogonal rotation + PolarQuant scalar quantization & optional 1-bit QJL residual correction.
=>> 6× memory reduction, up to 8× faster attention (on H100), & 0 degradation on LongBench, Needle-in-a-Haystack, and RULER for models like Gemma. No retraining, no calibration needed.
Fiction just got out-engineered by reality. 😅💚💚
Wayve has secured $1.5B to deploy our embodied AI platform globally.
Autonomy should work everywhere, in every condition, across every type of vehicle.
We are building a driving intelligence that learns to drive in places it has never seen before.
The UK is an amazing place for science & innovation. Thrilled to deepen our partnership with the UK Government to turbocharge scientific discovery with AI - giving scientists here priority access to our frontier models like AlphaEvolve, AI Co-Scientist, AlphaGenome, WeatherNext & more. We’re also building our first automated lab here in the UK for materials science!
imo this is a HUGE deal
Google DeepMind and the UK govt have just signed a partnership w/ 3 pillars:
1. transforming public services
2. accelerating scientific discovery
3. advancing AI security & resilience
Concrete bits that matter:
- a Gemini model trained on the UK national curriculum to support teachers & students
- priority access for UK scientists to tools like AI Coscientist, AlphaEvolve, AlphaGenome & WeatherNext
- AI projects with the govt. to modernise public services
BUT the materials lab is possibly the MOST exciting bit: a fully automated facility, integrated with Gemini, using robotics to synthesise & characterise hundreds of materials per day.
Imagine what AI + robot lab team searching for new superconductors, better solar materials, more efficient semiconductors could mean for the UK.
Christmas came early thanks to @demishassabis 🥰🥰🥰
Five years ago, two English historians started a podcast to occupy themselves during lockdown, and The Rest Is History. 📚
Our 2025 Show of the Year, @theresthistory, is a banter-filled trip to the past with hosts @DCSandbrook and @Holland_Tom.
https://t.co/VIN3jWDh1b
It's an incredible honour for @TheRestHistory to be named @ApplePodcasts Show of the Year - the first ever non-US winner.
It's something @holland_tom and I never anticipated when he suggested doing the show in 2020, and tribute to the hard work of our wonderful & talented team.
Today is a significant milestone for @wayve_ai, as we proudly announce our $1.05 billion Series C from @SoftBank_Group, @Microsoft and @nvidia. Since the start we've held a contrarian belief that end-to-end AI will make autonomy possible. I'm excited about this massive endorsement of our vision and the opportunity to launch our first Embodied AI product for automotive.
Here's our full press release: https://t.co/J98xv30fCM
This is mesmerising! 😎 We're seeing some incredible robust behaviour emerge from our AI Driver.
This video shows @wayve_ai's autonomous vehicle driving through London. With no lidar, no HD-maps, no hand-coded rules. Just pure on-board intelligence from our end-to-end neural network. #EmbodiedAI
Long, continuous, complex, uninterrupted stretches of autonomy always impress me the most. So I cut this video of a full drive I went on last week with some highlights at the start, then showing the full uninterrupted video afterwards.
The video starts with my highlights which were 2 unprotected turns in heavy traffic, then nudging into an intersection to make another turn, and then 2 videos of overtaking a bus. Keep on watching for the full run!
October 23, 2001 the original #iPod was introduced “1,000 songs in your pocket”
I will never forget that day. While production of iPods stopped last year, it’s amazing to see how many of you were and still are iPod fans. Thanks for loving a device that has been such a big part of my life!
Many things have changed since we started end-to-end learned driving in 2017, including the cars we use and the cities we drive in.
But one thing that remains the same is our #embodiedintelligence approach to #selfdriving.
