فواد صاحب! مشرف کا 2001 کا آمرانہ قانون یاد دلانے سے پہلے یہ دیکھ لیں کہ پیپلز پارٹی نے ہمیشہ آئین اور قانون کے دائرے میں رہ کر بلدیاتی اداروں کو مضبوط کیا ہے۔ سندھ میں بلدیاتی نمائندے فنڈز اور اختیارات کے ساتھ کام کر رہے ہیں۔ جس شخص نے خود ہر آمر اور سیاسی جماعت کا آلہ کار بن کر جمہوریت کو نقصان پہنچایا ہو، وہ ہمیں قانون سکھانے کی کوشش نہ کرے۔

Before criticizing Karachi’s local government system, first demonstrate the courage to hold local government elections in Lahore and Islamabad.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s challenge is unequivocal: conduct local government elections in Lahore and Islamabad within 90 days. Karachi has an elected Mayor and local councils that derive their mandate from the people, while citizens in Punjab’s major cities and the federal capital continue to be denied their fundamental democratic right to elect local representatives.

Those who invoke Karachi for political point-scoring should first answer why local democracy remains suspended in their own strongholds. If they truly believe in the people’s mandate, what are they afraid of?

Democracy does not end with provincial or national elections. It is strengthened when power is devolved to the grassroots through empowered local governments. The Pakistan Peoples Party has consistently stood for this principle. It is time for others to stop making excuses and let the people decide.
