Over the last 12 hours, I have experienced, to quote ABC's Wide World of Sports, the "thrill of victory and the agony of defeat" that comes with perpetually supporting teams that struggle to win (Jets, Mets, etc.).
First came the agony: trying to sleep after Egypt’s challenging first-half performance, in which the team fell behind 1–0 and exhibited anxiety-inducing vulnerabilities.
Then came the thrill: waking up very early this morning to the news of Egypt's 3–1 victory -- its first in four World Cup appearances. It was pure joy, and, yes, I shed a few tears of happiness!
