I think the game would be fine with mana burn. 🔥
It would punish players for over tapping, create a consequence for going infinite, and there's a canonical explanation for it.

When filming cards, if you have lights anywhere within the highlighted area, you're going to have glare. It doesn't matter how dim they are. The lower to the table you are, the wider the red glare area gets.

Get it higher, zoom in and keep lights out of the red zone. No glare.
