Oikonomou earned six caps for Greece and enjoyed a distinguished career in Italy with clubs including Bologna, Cagliari, Bari, SPAL and Sampdoria. He also featured in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, teammates and all who knew him.
