A teacher earning $60,000 pays Social Security taxes on every dollar she earns.
A worker earning $184,500 does, too.
But someone earning $1 million pays the tax on just the first $184,500. Nothing more.
Yes, the country’s billionaires pay into Social Security as if they make $184,500.
That doesn’t make sense.
So I have a bill to eliminate this arbitrary cap on Social Security taxes.
If those with the highest incomes just paid the same share as everyone else, we could inject around $3 TRILLION into the program over the next 10 years.
I'm fighting hard to protect Social Security.
We're told progressive ideas are "fringe." Really?
59% want Medicare for All
57% want a $20 minimum wage
61% want a billionaire wealth tax
63% want to pause AI development
66% want the wealthy to pay more into Social Security
Maybe it's the establishment that's out of touch.
The United States cannot keep bankrolling the violence in Gaza and the West Bank.
It's time to end our complicity.
NO MORE TAXPAYER SUPPORT FOR THE EXTREMIST NETANYAHU GOVERNMENT. https://t.co/epFygMaeuc
Donald Trump is illegally stealing $810 million from programs that support education, small business, and clean air.
All while tripling his own net worth and spending billions more on ballrooms, reflecting pools, and an illegal war nobody asked for.
He is the most corrupt, out of touch President in our nation’s history. Senate Democrats will pursue every avenue to ensure that these funds are distributed as the law demands.
Remember when Trump said his war in Iran would last only four to five weeks?
We’re now in month EIGHT, and the American people and our troops are paying the price.
Last week, the Senate GOP had the chance to vote to end this illegal war, and instead voted to keep it going.
They are complicit.
10 Hills I’ll die on:
- Big corporations shouldn’t be able to buy elections
- A good education shouldn’t just be for rich kids
- Getting sick shouldn’t mean going broke
- We should invest in child care like we do our roads and libraries
- Billionaires should pay their fair share so everyone else gets a fair shot
- Homes are for people, not corporations
- Abortion is health care
- Americans should not have to subsidize the cost of data centers
- No one should be able to use public office to make themselves richer
- We need to put put power back in the hands of working people
The Bible says a lot of things, Nancy. The Bible says people should be killed for gathering firewood on the Sabbath (Numbers 15:32-36). See, the thing about the Bible, Nancy, is that it's for shit.
Bernie sitting on the Capitol steps alone after his amendment to reduce Medicare drug costs was defeated 99-1. All he's ever done is try his damned hardest to make survival for American workers easier and I wish we deserved him.
Barack Obama at his last press briefing with reporters, 2017:
"I have enjoyed working with all of you. That does not, of course, mean that I've enjoyed every story that you have filed, but that's the point of this relationship. You're not supposed to be sycophants. You're supposed to be skeptics. You're supposed to ask me tough questions. You're not supposed to be complimentary, but you're supposed to cast a critical eye on folks who hold enormous power."
