๐ All About The Arterios
In 2024, SWR will begin to rollout its new flagship fleet of trains, the Arterios, to replace the aging existing fleet operating on their Suburban network. These cutting edge trains will transform the passenger experience for all.

@LordOrk@AvantiWestCoast Nice to see something positive :)
The railway might have its fair share of problems, which you do an excellent job of highlighting, but itโs good to also celebrate those times when everything goes as it should.
๐พ Toilets are often out of order, which is due to the new bioreactor tanks allowing significantly more usage before filling and then locking compared to the legacy fleet, causing them to run out of water before reaching a refill point.
Sources say this is being worked on.
โน๏ธ Interior information screens can be slow and faulty, such as stuttering scrolling text and instances of the screen freezing on white.
Quality control is also suboptimal; announcements playing twice, unnecessarily shortened station names etc.
Overall, an unoptimised package.
๐ฐ SWR Arterio units have provided a significant transformation, however, in order for them to reach their full potential for passengers, work needs to be done to make strategic improvements to both overall uptime and the quality of passenger facing features. ๐
@swtrains_watch@SW_Help Thank you for promoting the thread.
Just to clarify, the 10 car variant of the Arterio is expected to finish entering service during the summer, however the 5 car variant will be entering service at the end of the summer, and then should all be in by the end of the year.
โ ๏ธ This is also an important reminder that we are not associated with SWR or the DfT, nor with any stakeholders in the Arterio project.
Although we are strong believers in the benefits of this programme, itโs important to point out issues like these where appropriate.
We would like to acknowledge @swtrains_watch for helping to platform many of these issues that commuters have been raising, either through replying to their comments or publishing statistics.
This has helped to raise many of these problems to our attention.

Good morning from Vauxhall! Great to see so many Arterio trains in service now. These brand-new, air conditioned trains should really help us this bank holiday weekend, alongside all the extra seats they offer to customers. #shinynewtrain
@swtrains_watch@Lizevanslondon@SW_Help Thereโs a blind that can be pulled down on the units (electronically or manually) like on all rolling stock.
Sometimes drivers donโt use them when approaching stations because they need a full view of the platform ahead.
