@Andrewnsnyder Moana and Zootopia are both great. Moana 2 is not, but Zootopia 2 is fine. Encanto is lovely without 100% sticking the landing. I love that it attempts a large somewhat rounded cast and visual expression like Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.
@BillWiIdin It wouldn’t surprise me if brick-and-mortar stores eventually become more like banks: products behind glass, inventory in a vault, and we just order through an app. Not endorsing it, but the incentives are obvious: lower labor costs and less shrink.
@PastorTrey05 What fascinates me is the consistency: aesthetically aggressive kitsch, addressing superficial concerns as a proxy for foundational work, damn the process, blame anyone who paid attention.
@ThrillaRilla369 An addictive device that allows me to talk to strangers while on the toilet and then confer with a language calculator if I did a good job.
@murphallo It’s one of the least important movies of the year which is what I like about it. And it doesn’t look cheap. It does toss in some mild gender studies if you’re allergic.
@jess_ann_pin “Retard” was still live when we were kids, and we used it with mockery that included things like flailing arms and exaggerated faces. The ‘not smart’ was just half of it. It was the physical mimicry, the performance of otherness. That’s the cruelty.
@jess_ann_pin From my generation, it carried both limited cognitive capacity and a physical/developmental association. We’d never seen someone formally labeled a “moron” or “imbecile” because those terms had already been retired to reduce stigma.
