@jphillips7bc@flawedaxioms Yea bro but you gotta realize we are coming back into multi-generational situations against everyone involved’s will. The boomer parents, the broke children— no one wants this, and everyone is miserable.
@himreysmakinton@morgan88877 It definitely makes life more interesting and deep. That is an improvement of life to my mind. But you know, we are at the mercy of a certain unforgiving system which may not be inclusive of the type of lifestyle these drugs promote. That’s why life may not get better after.
@Fem_toxic_yuri@sillysillyracc@sonjamorganstan Looked up the Marco’s near me, and it says they are hiring at $9. I reckon it bumped up a bit. While looking though, I found a bunch of jobs paying $8 an hour, which I think is a fancy way of saying minimum wage, so I actually stand corrected
@solarien_@sonjamorganstan Easier to justify our suffering that way. Look into the history of McDonalds employment. It began as a dignifying job. It was impressive to get hired at McDonalds a couple of decades ago. It meant you were on track in life. Now, it’s so degrading that it is analogous to failure
@chpstk_munchr_6@sonjamorganstan Maybe your friend works the most goated walmart job ever but at my store everyone busts ass day in and day out (except for the management of course). I did 12 hour days med surge for a few months as a student nurse with a full patient load and it was almost easier than walmart
@Fem_toxic_yuri@sillysillyracc@sonjamorganstan You never really see sub $11 job postings even with federal minimum wage. At least I didn’t when I was applying for jobs. Mississippi small town btw. Maybe a few odd ones dip below the $11 mark, but very few to my knowledge pay less than that. And most pay more, like $12-$15
@gabberflastic I had a childhood friend named Julie who refused to press charges against her rapist at 18. She said it was too big of a hassle. Even her parents were involved. Then I learned that she still saw him regularly for years after that. I don’t antagonize but I always found it peculiar
@geoffwilt @h_um_ble_ Joyce is idiosyncratic as all get out. Few people aspire to his level of idiosyncrasy, or peculiarities as OP says. FW is an orgy of his peculiarities. You have to wash yourself in his peculiarities if you want the work to open up to you. Hence why OP calls them “brutal.”
@mikalchay@whereidreamyou I hope you find the time to graduate from Ulysses to Finnegans Wake my friend. It’s scary at first glance but when you get comfortable you come to understand the world on a different level by reading it. It’s the Joycian pedagogy of how to become a god in this dimension.
@maybevishnu1 Cosmetic surgery feels like a shallow attempt to address insecurity, to me. I’m not pharmaphobic, so my scaffolding of an ideal world isn’t damaged by supplementation of any sort. One of the great things about the human body is how responsive it is to exogenous chemicals.
@maybevishnu1 Both are aimed at addressing a felt dissonance and trying to solve an emotional problem via alteration of behavior and outlook. This is the sort of thing I think you are bringing cynicism to. Which might be warranted, but I can’t tell.
@maybevishnu1 Here’s a way to consider it. Let’s say we have two men, one decides to alter their appearance to appear as a woman, another to appear more masculine. You might think one is pathological and the other isn’t. In my opinion, both are pathological.
