The scapegoating of #Christians in #Iran is the focus of our 2026 annual report.

Nearly twice as many were arrested in 2025 than in 2024, and more than twice as many were imprisoned.

Sentences also got harsher: Christians received a total of 280 years in prison sentences, and 11 individuals received sentences of over 10 years each.

“For 47 years, the Iranian people have been subjected to a regime that not only consistently fails to uphold human rights for its citizens, but brutally quashes dissenting voices, opinions or beliefs,” the report states.

“This report details the violations throughout 2025 experienced by just one section of society – the #Christian community.”

#Christians have been among the more than 6,000 #Iranians arbitrarily arrested and in some cases subjected to enforced disappearances since the start of the war, according to a new report by @Amnesty.

“Authorities have arbitrarily arrested, threatened and/or summoned hundreds of protesters; human rights defenders; lawyers; journalists and other media workers; civil society activists; labour rights’ activists; students; teachers; justice-seeking families of protesters and bystanders unlawfully killed or arbitrarily executed; ethnic minorities, including Ahwazi Arabs, Baluchis, and Kurds; and religious minorities, including Baha’is and Christians,” the report states.

It cites the example of Christian convert Mary Mohammadi, a former prisoner of conscience, who according to Amnesty “has been subjected to enforced disappearance since late February 2026”.

“According to an informed source, she had travelled from #Tehran to #Ahvaz, #Khuzestan province, and was in contact with her family until around 26 February 2026 before communication ceased,” the report states. “The authorities have refused to disclose her fate or whereabouts to her family but, according to information gathered by Amnesty International, she was initially held in a Ministry of Intelligence detention facility in Ahvaz before being transferred to an undisclosed location on 2 April 2026.”

Amnesty warns that Mary and the other detainees are “at grave risk, particularly amid reports of #torture and other ill-treatment in detention and deaths in custody in suspicious circumstances”.

A Christian convert recently sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison has reportedly gone on #hunger_strike in #EvinPrison in protest.

#Ghazal_Marzban, a #Catholic whose husband has #Parkinsons disease, has been on hunger strike since last Monday, 25 May, according to HRANA, and her physical condition is said to have deteriorated.

Ghazal was re-arrested in January, days after the massacre of thousands of protesters, including at least 22 Christians.

She was sentenced last month to 9 years and 8 months in prison by notorious Revolutionary Court judge Iman Afshari, who was recently sanctioned by the EU and has been behind the harsh sentencing of many political prisoners, including #Christians.

«ای خدای آزادی، ای خدای عدالت... جهان ما را که در اندوه ستم گرفتار است، با نفس شفابخش روح خویش لمس کن.»

این بخشی از سرودی بود که روز شنبه در کلیسای جامع سنت پل لندن، یکی از مهم‌ترین و تاریخی‌ترین مراکز مسیحی بریتانیا، توسط صدها مسیحی ایرانی مقیم این کشور زمزمه شد.

این مراسم به ابتکار ائتلاف جهانی مسیحیان ایرانی و کلیسای انگلیکن انگلستان، در همبستگی با جان‌باختگان خشونت و سرکوب در ایران و همچنین به یاد قربانیان جنگ برگزار شد.

در این گردهمایی که به دو زبان فارسی و انگلیسی برگزار شد، شرکت‌کنندگان با دعا برای صلح، عدالت، آشتی و کرامت انسانی، یاد جان‌باختگان اعتراضات و قربانیان خشونت را گرامی داشتند.

منصور برجی، مدیر اجرایی سازمان ماده ۱۸، در این مراسم تأکید کرد که فداکاری و یاد قربانیان، از جمله مسیحیانی که در جریان اعتراضات جان خود را از دست دادند، نباید به فراموشی سپرده شود.

یاد همه جان‌باختگان راه آزادی، عدالت و کرامت انسانی گرامی باد.

A remembrance service was held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on Saturday to commemorate the many 1000s killed during the protests in #Iran earlier this year.

The service, which was held in both English and Persian, included contributions from several of the UK’s Iranian-born Christian leaders, including Rev Mehrdad Fatehi and Rev Omid Moludy, and Shirin Ward, sister of Bahram Dehqani-Tafti, who was among the Christians killed during the early years of the Islamic Republic.

#Article18’s executive director, Mansour Borji, was also present, telling the Church Times it was an “honour to join in prayer … for all the people of Iran, while remembering members of Iran’s #persecuted Christian community who lost their lives during the recent protests, including #Zahra_Arjmandi, #Nader_Mohammadi, #Ehsan_AfshariManesh, #Mohsen_Rashidi, and #Ejmin_Masihi. Their sacrifice must not be forgotten.”

A Christian convert in #Evin Prison in need of urgent medical care continues to be denied treatment and is at risk of partial blindness, Article18 understands.

#Mahshar_Parandin, who has a heart condition and two tumours, was reportedly sent to hospital last week for a test, but returned to prison without being treated, according to the Persian-language Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

“This is despite the fact that the prison’s medical doctor has diagnosed that she needs a cardiac angiogram and surgery for the tumours,” HRANA’s source reported.

And according to Article18’s sources, Mahshar’s tumours have continued to visibly grow, not only affecting her balance, movement and speech, but putting her at risk of losing sight in one of her eyes.

Mahshar, a painter who is serving a two-year sentence, is eligible for parole but has been refused conditional release.

محشر(محترم) پرندین، نوکیش مسیحی محبوس در زندان اوین، با وجود نیاز فوری به آنژیوگرافی قلب و جراحی تومورهای ناحیه گردن، همچنان از رسیدگی تخصصی پزشکی محروم مانده است.

طبق منابع سارمان ماده۱۸ این شهروند مسیحی «در خطر از دست دادن بینایی قرار دارند» یا «بیم آن می رود که بینایی یک چشم خود را از دست بدهد.»

سایت هرانا گزارش داد که این شهروند مسیحی «در هفته گذشته به بیمارستان اعزام شد، اما پس از انجام تنها یک آزمایش، بدون دریافت خدمات درمانی یا تجویز دارو به زندان بازگردانده شد.». این زندانی مسیحی که از بیماری قلبی و همچنین دو تومور در ناحیه زیر گلو و مجاورت مخچه رنج می‌برد، کماکان از دسترسی به خدمات درمانی تخصصی و اعزام مؤثر به مراکز درمانی خارج از زندان محروم است.

محشر (محترم) پرندین، هنرمند و نقاش، مادر یک فرزند محصل و سرپرست خانواده است که پیش‌تر توسط دادگاه انقلاب به دو سال حبس محکوم شده است.

غزل مرزبان، نوکیش مسیحی محبوس در زندان اوین، از روز دوشنبه ۴ خردادماه در اعتراض به صدور حکم ۹ سال و هشت ماه حبس علیه خود دست به #اعتصاب_غذا زده است.

سایت هرانا با انتشار این خبر به نقل از یک منبع آگاه گزارش داد: «خانم مرزبان در اعتراض به حکم ۹ سال و هشت ماه حبس که اخیراً توسط قاضی ایمان افشاری علیه وی صادر شده است، از تاریخ ۴ خرداد ۱۴۰۵ دست به اعتصاب غذا زده است. با گذشت هفت روز از آغاز اعتصاب، وضعیت جسمانی او نامناسب گزارش شده است.»

عفو بین‌الملل در گزارشی تازه اعلام کرد مقام‌های ایرانی با بهره‌گیری از آنچه «شرایط جنگی» می‌خوانند، سرکوب مخالفان و منتقدان را تشدید کرده‌اند. به گفته این سازمان، از زمان آغاز درگیری‌های اخیر بیش از شش هزار نفر، از جمله معترضان، روزنامه‌نگاران، وکلا، مدافعان حقوق بشر، فعالان مدنی و اعضای اقلیت‌های قومی و دینی بازداشت شده‌اند و هم‌زمان دست‌کم ۳۹ نفر نیز در پرونده‌های سیاسی اعدام شده‌اند.

#عفو_بین‌الملل می‌گوید مقام‌های جمهوری اسلامی از فضای ناشی از بحران برای تشدید سرکوب از طریق بازداشت‌های گسترده و خودسرانه، دادرسی‌های شتاب‌زده و ناعادلانه، اعدام‌های با انگیزه سیاسی، احکام سنگین زندان و مصادره اموال استفاده کرده‌اند.

این سازمان به موارد متعددی از ناپدیدسازی قهری اشاره کرده است. در میان افرادی که نام آنان در گزارش آمده، نسرین ستوده، وکیل و مدافع شناخته‌شده حقوق بشر، آستاره (مریم) انصاری، الهام زراعت‌پیشه و ماری محمدی، روزنامه‌نگار و مدافع حقوق بشر، دیده می‌شوند.

An Iranian #Christian convert has been sentenced to 9 years and 8 months in prison on charges including “propaganda against the state” and “gathering and collusion against #Iran's national security”.

Ghazal, who spent two months in #EvinPrison in 2024 after being convicted of “propaganda against the state by chanting slogans”, was rearrested in January at her home in #Tehran.

Her #Bible and other Christian literature were confiscated, and she was then taken away to an unknown location, with no explanation given for her rearrest.

According to Article18’s sources, Ghazal was pressured during interrogations to admit that her #Bible and other Christian literature had been used for evangelical purposes, but Ghazal denied this, saying they had been for personal use only and that, as a Christian, she had the right to possess them.

Article18’s executive director, Mansour Borji, said that due to her husband’s #Parkinsons disease, Ghazal’s sentencing was in reality “a sentence for both of them”.

بر اساس گزارش‌ها، دست‌کم ۵۰ شهروند مسیحی به دلیل باورها و فعالیت‌های مسالمت‌آمیز دینی در زندان‌های ایران محبوس هستند.

به گفته یک منبع نزدیک به خانواده، غزل مرزبان در جریان تجمع اعتراضی که منجر به بازداشت او شد، با اشاره به وضعیت مردم ایران، از #پاپ فرانسیس خواسته بود با فریاد «فقر و ظلم در ایران»، «از مردم ایران حمایت کند».

نمایندگان پارلمان اروپا روز پنجشنبه ۳۱ اردیبهشت‌ماه، با انتخاب عنوان «سرکوب و اعدام معترضان، مخالفان، زندانیان سیاسی و اقلیت‌های دینی در ایران»، قطعنامه‌ای علیه نقض #حقوق_بشر در ایران تصویب کرده و خواستار تحریم مقام‌های حکومتی مسئول سرکوب شدند.

در این قطعنامه، نمایندگان پارلمان اروپا «همبستگی خود را با مردم ایران ابراز کردند؛ مردمی که با بزرگ‌ترین کشتار جمعی معترضان در تاریخ این کشور روبه‌رو هستند.» آنان مجازات اعدام را به‌عنوان ابزاری برای جلوگیری از بسیج سیاسی به‌شدت محکوم کرده و خواستار لغو کامل آن شدند. نمایندگان همچنین اعدام مخفیانه مخالفان در ماه‌های مارس و آوریل، از جمله افراد زیر سن قانونی، را محکوم کرده و از مقام‌های جمهوری اسلامی خواستند همه زندانیان سیاسی را فوراً آزاد کنند.

پارلمان اروپا از #اتحادیه_اروپا خواست تحریم‌ها علیه مقام‌های ایرانی مسئول سرکوب، از جمله #سپاه پاسداران و نهادهای وابسته به رهبر جمهوری اسلامی، را گسترش دهد. نمایندگان همچنین اعلام کردند اعضای سپاه پاسداران و اعضای خانواده وفادار به آن‌ها باید از ورود به اتحادیه اروپا منع شوند. در این قطعنامه از کشورهای عضو اتحادیه اروپا خواسته شده نمایندگی‌های دیپلماتیک ایران که با سرکوب فراملی مرتبط هستند را تعطیل کرده و تمامی تحریم‌ها را به اجرا بگذارند.

نمایندگان پارلمان اروپا همچنین خواستار آن شدند که اتحادیه اروپا و شرکای همسو، ابزارهایی برای دسترسی امن و آزاد مردم ایران به اینترنت فراهم کنند؛ چرا که مردم ایران با قطع گسترده #اینترنت مواجه هستند.

این قطعنامه با ۵۱۶ رأی موافق، ۱۴ رأی مخالف و ۳۹ رأی ممتنع تصویب شد.

The report I linked above is from 2014 but most of the information is still, sadly, current.

I think what the guest here is talking about are people who are born into Christianity in Iran. It is true that the Islamic Republic affords some freedoms to adherents to monotheistic religions but NOT to any converts. Converts are dealt with brutally, as are members of the Bahai faith who the Islamic Republic considers to be heretics.

Interviews like this are incredibly misleading—the Islamic Republic does not tolerate freedom of religion when it believes that religious practice is an affront to Islam.

Christian converts are considered apostates by the Islamic Republic and can be given the death penalty. Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani was a high profile case in 2010 back when I documented these violations closely.

🔸گزارش‌ها از ایران حاکی است بهار صحرائیان، از جمله وکلای دادگستریِ فعال در حوزه حقوق بشر که وکالت چندین نوکیش مسیحی را نیز برعهده داشته، در شیراز بازداشت شده است.

🔸سازمان غیرانتفاعی «ماده ۱۸» که در لندن مستقر است و در حمایت از مسیحیان تحت آزار و اذیت در ایران فعالیت می‌کند، نوشته که خانم صحرائیان روز شنبه ۲۶ اردیبهشت بازداشت و روز بعد برای او در دادسرای این شهر جلسه بازپرسی برگزار شد.

🔸بر اساس این گزارش، صحرائیان بابت مواردی چون «اجتماع و تبانی به قصد اقدام علیه امنیت ملی»، «فعالیت تبلیغی علیه نظام» و «نشر اکاذیب» مورد تفهیم اتهام قرار گرفته است.

🔸پیش از این خبرگزاری حقوق بشری هرانا که در آمریکا مستقر است، نیز نوشته بود که این وکیل دادگستری پس از مراجعه به دادگاه انقلاب شیراز برای پیگیری امور وکالتی خود بازداشت شد.

🔸بهار صحرائیان، عضو کانون وکلای دادگستری استان فارس، پیش‌تر نیز به دلیل فعالیت‌های حقوق بشری خود سابقه بازداشت داشته است.

🔸پیش‌تر نیز گزارش شده بود که شیما قوشه، وکیل دادگستری ساکن تهران که وکالت برخی نوکیشان مسیحی را برعهده داشت، روز ۲۶ دی‌ماه توسط نیروهای امنیتی در منزل شخصی خود بازداشت و به مکان نامعلومی منتقل شده بود. او نهایتاً در اسفندماه با قرار وثیقه هفت میلیارد تومانی آزاد شد.
