Armbands & twisted braids of gleaming silver, found near aptly named Silverdale, Lancs. Among the greatest Viking-era hoards found in Britain, prob buried around 900 during unrest bw Danish settlers and local (Saxon) farmers. Found only in 2011. @LancsMuseums

A vigorous scene of a skirmish between #Roman infantry & cavalry adorns the top of the Ribchester helmet, originally worn by an elite cavalryman. It was discovered in 1796 by a clogmaker's son, with a hoard, & is now on display in the British Museum.
