For the past two decades, we have been selling digital products with almost zero investment in advertising. The vast majority of our sales have been thanks to SEO! Optimization of our titles has played a major role to achieve this great milestone, here are some recommendations: ↦ Titles for humans😛 Titles must be written for humans, but optimized for search engines, so keep that in mind to build your title around the keyword you want to promote: Sample keyword: Vector icons Sample title: Huge vector icons set including more than 5000 free icons ↦ Position inside the title 📑 Try to position your keyword at the initial part of your title, so keeping them to the left: Sample keyword: Vector t-shirt designs Sample title: The definitive tutorial about vector t-shirt design Optimized title: Vector t-shirt design, the definitive tutorial ↦ Popular keywords 🏆️ If you are trying to promote a very popular keyword (one with a huge amount or monthly searches), but your content it’s not that good for the competition (not enough inbound links, not enough words, etc) it’s better to use a long term keyword. Instead of using: Professional icons We could use: Vector professional icons Which is less popular, but still a strong keyword ↦ H1 for titles🏷️ Use H1 for titles, and it’s recommended only one title per page, other titles should be tagged as H2, H3 or other headings. If you have several H1 inside a page, you need to start fixing it, as you need the search engines, and your users, to recognize the hierarchy of your titles easily. ↦ Number of Words 🖨️ As a general rule, if you have any content with more than 700 words, you can start optimizing it for SEO purposes, BUT the recommended number is around 1000/1500 words for long tail keywords. And at least 2500/6000 for popular keywords, otherwise the content needs to have many inbound links, as a popular free tool without much text on it. ↦ Related keywords 📚️ If possible, include other related keywords in addition to your main keyword, and remove the words that are not likely to be searched, so instead of “T-shirt designs for sports’ enthusiasts” we could have: “sports t-shirt designs with vector sources” That way we are integrating: sports t-shirt designs AND vector sources into one single title. ↦ Update your titles 📅 Nowadays, contents must be in constant optimization and up to date, so, if you have written an article years ago, you could optimize and update its data to the current year, and doing so you can also update your title and even include the year on it If you are creating a listicle, you can also upgrade your title with the new number of items in the content!
