Reuniting Art and Science at @oniHQ. We are using cutting-edge tech & creative art. On a mission to democratize science. #artONI#SciArt#ArtistinResidence
The brain is the most complex system on earth. How can we better understand its function? Our project explores the power of the very small (nanoscale!) to understand brain complexity & activity #artONI@oniHQ @InvisibleWorks

A human brain contains >100 trillion synapses; neuronal connections that govern #brain functions. Because synapses are very small, we need high-resolution #microscopes🔬 to study them! #ShusterMoseley

We are bringing together science and visual arts as part of the 2019/2020 ONI #ArtistinResidence Program. Our scientists are collaborating with Shuster+Moseley @invisibleworks, conceptual artists whose inspiring work reflects on consciousness & technology! #SciArt@oniHQ@mtart_
Finally, Santiago Ramón y Cajal investigated the microscopic structure of the brain and made hundreds of drawings illustrating the delicate "tree growing" of brain cells.
Cajal was a pioneer of modern #neuroscience and his drawings are still used nowadays! #neuron#SciArt

Robert #Hooke's beautiful drawings revealed microscopic life for the first time in history. He saw cells (coining the term!) under his home-made microscopes using cork. His artistic skills allowed his seminal work to be published in a 1665 book called 'Micrographia'. #cells

Our research in residency @onihq@artist_oni@mtart_ has focused on the mind/brain interface, asking how phenomena of the mind relate to micro-biological processes in the brain. Nanoimaging offers a view into the micro-worlds of the sites at which this interface plays out.
