What’s Up in the Ordinals Space?
Here’s a TL;DR

@__proper wrote an honest article about his personal observations on why

1 ) “Bitcoin Season 2” hasn’t been a box office hit, despite all the money and effort poured in

2 ) Despite the noise of the echo chamber, his interest in Ordinals burns on.

Community :

• Despite the prestige of Bitcoin itself, the Ordinals community remains small and without a distinct direction.

• Mostly comprised of die hard puritans who don’t mind the lo-fi / bad UX barriers they face.

• That same fact makes the community unique from others as they’re quite disinterested in what’s going on outside of BTC. Many believe other chains to be test nets with no long term futures. Whose existence will eventually be absorbed by BTC.

Culture :

• While the community believes it’s pioneering a new era on Bitcoin, many behaviors mirror past cycles. Recycling years of crypto art trends.

• The idea that the community is “early” masks a lack of historical context and originality. Many narratives, like low inscription numbers—feel like déjà vu from Ethereum in 2021.

Separating the Wheat from the Chaff (pros)

• Noise aside, Ordinals offers a unique, Bitcoin-native way to embed data on-chain. Satoshis labeled with meaning rather than assets stored in contracts.

• The protocol’s limitations create creative constraints as well as conceptual opportunities. While much of the space chases hype, a small group is using these constraints to explore meaningful, novel forms of onchain expression on Bitcoin.

• In his view, some of the most compelling Crypto Art of the past 2 years have been created on Bitcoin, in defiance of the echo chamber and despite receiving little attention beyond it.

• There is PLENTY of potential and hope
