@chauncypepper@BasedRPG Eh to be fair Ice Age was already dead a long time ago. So whatever stupid stuff they do, I just hope its at least so bad its funny not so bad its boring.
@toonzguy@Akumabat Good for Star Wars.
Bad for Ice Age. Its no doubt going to be another terrible sequel.
Ice Age could give Star Wars competition for ruined franchise.
Only those who understood the exact mechanisms could operate them, making invasions difficult.
Only later were staircases carved into the rock, making the monasteries slightly more accessible, without sacrificing their isolation.
While the cliffs are an unmistakable defense, what’s less known is the engineering genius behind all of this...
For centuries, monks used a “windlass” — a manually operated pulley system — to lift supplies and people up to the monasteries.
This era was overlooked by Athanasios Koinovitis, a prominent monk who founded the Great Meteoron Monastery around 1356.
His followers would haul materials using ladders and ropes to the summit, building a fortress (both physical and spiritual) against external threats.
But by the 14th century, the Byzantine Empire was weakening, making the region became vulnerable to raids from the Turks.
Seeking safety and a stronger community, monks began to establish a larger (permanent) monastery — on even higher, less accessible pillars of rock.
In the 9th century, hermit monks first arrived at Meteora, drawn by the natural seclusion and the nearly inaccessible rock pillars that dotted the region.
Their caves, chapels and living quarters were simple, aiming to reflect the humble ideals of monastic life, in isolation.
This is the Meteora Monasteries, a revolutionary wonder of Greece, built 600 years ago.
What makes it so special?
Well, once upon a time, building 1,000 feet into the sky was completely normal... 🧵
