I was on a Space yesterday and was asked:

“Do you think NFTs still have a future, given that NFTs in early 2020 and 2021 were more economically driven than they are now, even though they were just drawings?”

The question continued:

“I know whites will buy NFTs. But most Nigerians see NFTs as just drawings, and only if it’s a girl picture that many people would mint. We have girls’ pictures everywhere, so who would want to pay for them?”

I answered:

NFTs are seen in the decentralized future, and they are much more fun to own as real assets than tokens.

But for NFTs to be seen as such in the future, they must be given some utility to stay, doing away with the idea of speculative art in the NFT space.

If NFTs are treated less as “flip to earn” assets like memecoins and more as utility-driven assets, then the future of NFTs is strong in the decentralized future.

This is what @artxmedia is building.

To give NFTs purpose, utility, and to do away with NFTception.

Nigerians may see NFTs now as mere art, but in the future, NFTs can be used as means of identification, authentication, sales, access, and all that feels viable.

The future of NFTs isn't just about the picture.

It is about what the NFT can do.
