Today I’m doing anesthesia for someone with a failing heart.

So last night, I laid in bed worrying about how I’d keep them alive.

To be honest, I didn’t want to go to work.

But then I felt the Lord speak.

He showed me all the people going to work today, doing jobs that from the outside, look pointless and pay nothing.

And yet, they have a purpose.

And it isn’t to have influence or solve the world’s problems.

It’s to serve.

You can be picking up trash or performing brain surgery and be doing it to serve.

And that’s why Christians should be getting up everyday.

Not to accomplish greats things for their own sake, but to find a way to serve.

If that’s your goal, you’ll never hate your job, because your job isn’t about you.

Walking into the hospital this morning, I kept my eyes on my job to serve today.

I no longer needed my day to go well because my day isn’t about me.

It’s about everyone else.

That’s freedom.
