Had a great time visiting @LabHedrick at @cornellvet and learning about some of the cool work going on across campus. It was a nice break for some real fall weather too!
Exciting news! After an amazing journey at @Sternarchella Lab, I'm thrilled to begin my new role as professor at @UFPR . Ready to welcome master's and PhD students for the upcoming semester—let's study fish together!

only @TxDOT wants more & bigger highways in #Houston.
city residents are over it.
the construction.
the noise.
the pollution.
the destruction of neighborhoods & parks.
you can line a light rail route with trees & grass & coffee shops & bakeries.
a highway is just pavement.

I met a dog today. When I asked what their name was, their person said “Venus” and I said “Oh my God! no way my friend’s cat is named Weenis too!” & they said “um what? What did you say?” And I said “um *gulp* my uhhh my friend’s cat…is weenis too?” And he said “This is Venus”.
Honored to announce that I have been selected for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Fellowship! This fellowship is presented to one first year Ph.D student in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology program at Rice University. Starting strong 💪 #RiceUniversity#TrackTheBats
Elmo was cracking me up on set when we shot this video.
Me: mucous can seem kinda gross

NEW: President Joe Biden himself called into the @HoustonChron today saying he's been trying to “track down” the governor to get the necessary requests to release the federal aid, which includes manpower and supplies.
Abbott of course has been in Asia.

Test drove the bat detector w/ @amulyats & @CoreyDanks in the neighborhood tonight.
Here are the results 🦇
Palmer cemetery: no bats detected
Konrad sq: none
That park at frankford & Susquehannah: nope
Norris square: Multiple bats! 2 species of bats! Big browns AND hoary bats?
@SarahMackAttack@HonkIfUrHoary Yes! The number of pulses ID’d can also be an indicator of how much you can trust the auto IDs - so relatively low for the hoary in this example but still plausible. We get a lot of likely hoary passes in Houston too with the echo meters and fancier detectors
Ok that's IT! it's time to get serious about making bat wheatpastes. Little upside down flying foxes. Asking the passersby what is it like to be a bat. I can do this. I mean, historically I definitely can't, but... Maybe this time I can.
@mattlanza This is so cool! How often do emergences show up on radar? I study bats at Rice and would love to learn more about this and think about ways we could use weather radar for bat research
🦇 SAVE THE DATE 🦇
