Finally wrote something...
Anna… I don’t even remember when I became your fan. Growing up in a small rural village in Kerala, TV and your films were a rare luxury. But I still remember those Sunday evening prime-time shows on certain channels, in the neighborhood library or public halls. If it was your movie, the entire place would erupt in whistles and claps — it was never just another Sunday show.
I saw you on the big screen for the first time when I was around 7 or 8, during a "palli perunnal" special screening — the movie was Spadikam 🔥💪. I still remember running to the screen from my Acha’s lap just to get a closer look at you.
Later, I saw you as Induchoodan during a school tour — we watched Narasimham at King Size Apsara — and the fanboy in me grew even stronger. When I joined Navodaya, I witnessed something unforgettable: my seniors fighting over Narasimham and Aaram Thamburan when Surya TV and Asianet aired them at the same time. The 11th and 12th-grade boys were literally arguing over your iconic characters —
“Who’s better — Induchoodan or Jagannathan?”
Years passed, and the fanboy in me only grew stronger. It reached a point where my happiness became directly proportional to the success of your films. I felt crushed — even went into a kind of depression — when your films didn’t do well at the box office or with critics. And I was filled with joy when they became blockbusters.
Two years ago, when Spadikam was re-released, I was in Ernakulam and I had decided to watch it at your strong fort — Kottayam Abhilash. I woke up at 3 or 4 in the morning (I’ve never woken up that early even for my exams!) and got ready to drive to Kottayam to catch the 7 AM fan show. My Amma, who is also a die-hard fan, saw me and jokingly said: “Ab... If you showed even half this love and dedication to your career that you’re showing to Lalettan, you'd be somewhere big by now!” 😬
You’ve truly become a part of our lives.
Lalettaaa… we all know the past 3-4 years weren’t easy — for you or for us. But we never lost faith. We always told each other,
“He’ll come back. We’ll see his good old days.”
And you did it — back-to-back! You made your fanboys so proud again.
Beyond all of this — because of you — I’ve found some of the best people in my life. I’ve met so many Jaseels, Irshads from Malappuram, Mithuns from Kannur, Sreeragettans from Thrissur, Babychans from Muvattupuzha, Unni, x, y, z from Ernakulam, Akhilettans from Alappuzha, Ben Mathews from Kottayam, Simons, Sreekanths from Pathanamthitta, Abhis, Nikhils, Ignasious, Sreejithettans from Trivandrum, and many more… people from different places, religions, castes, and political beliefs — all united by one name: Mohanlal.
I don’t know what more to say... I’m out of words.
Finally — we’re not your sleeper cells, Lalettaaa — we are your active fanboys. You're our big brother.
Like those ammas say: “Pinne… ente makana avan…”
Like those girls say: “Njangade ettanaa…”
Like those kids say: “Lalettaaa…”
You’ve become the very emotion of Malayalees over the years.
Love you so much. Thank you for existing. Always proud — forever proud — to be your fanboy.
Happy Birthday @Mohanlal #Lalettaaa ♥️ The most loved man in Kerala... the most celebrated icon in Malayalam Land...
