ZERO RHINOS POACHED IN 2025
You heard it right, ZERO rhinos have been poached in Assam in 2025, continuing our excellent conservation efforts and maintaining our streak of protecting Assam's pride.
Swift action by @kaziranga_ 🐘 and Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) reunited a stranded calf in Panbari forest with its herd where the mother warmly accepted the lost baby.
A beautiful moment of wildlife care and resilience! 🐘❤️

@Airawat@kaziranga_@BNHSIndia@assamforest Yes. Such nicknames are common even today. Few years ago, there was a rhino named by staff as ‘MVI’ in western range who had a peculiar habit of coming to the middle of the fair weather road to check on incoming patrolling gypsies. Any violation of jungle rules resulted in chase.
Many @kaziranga_ rhinos had/have nicknames given to them.
Below is an extract from a piece by the ledgendary E P Gee published in the Journal of the @BNHSIndia .

On the occasion of #GaneshChaturthi, we take pride in the centuries-old history of elephant management & care that originated in Assam. The enduring Mahout-elephant bond and their mention in mellifluous Goalporia lokogeet are living examples of this timeless tradition!

An encouraging sight!
Our efforts to clear encroachment from Burhachapori WLS bore fruit almost instantaneously as a jumbo visited the evicted areas this evening.
Over 2,000-HA land was cleared in Siali, Lathimari & other WLS areas in past 3 days without any untoward incident.
@Shail111111111@apparrnnaa It is a defence mechanism against browsing. It finally exposes small thorn at the base of leaf to discourage animals from browsing them.
